Like a stereotypical Gen Xer, I love a good mix tape. Like the old school kind with handwritten covers and weird drawings. Ah, the 90’s.
Anywho. I give you Regular Folk Giving Light: Music from the South, a Mississippi Delta-inspired mix tape in both music and title. Two hours of blues: old school and contemporary, Delta and Hill Country, a wide array for your listening pleasure. Enjoy.
The title comes from a painting, which comes from a turn-of-phrase by Benjamin Saulsberry, the Public Engagement and Museum Education Director of the Emmett Till Interpretive Center (ETIC) in Sumner, Mississippi. “Regular folk giving light” was how he described many of the Civil Rights activists in Mississippi. So that, and our interview, led to a series of paintings.
Good luck translating this chicken scratch. My brother said I have serial killer handwriting.
