A Quick 48 Hours in Michigan's Porcupine Mountains

$0.00

The Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, or the Porkies as they’re commonly called, is home to the largest old growth forest east of the Mississippi in the United States. Once 150,000 acres, it now stands at roughly 38,000 acres in the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan along Lake Superior. I spent an afternoon interviewing Nancy Franz, Iowa State University Professor Emerita of Education, about Michigan’s Porcupine Mountains - her favorite place on the planet. Nancy was kind enough to provide some suggestions on what to do and see in Porkies.

(And just like every AQ48 list I’ve compiled - this doesn’t pretend to be comprehensive. So please, email me at jennifer@whatsgoodproject.com and let us know what else needs to be here.)
